The Sales Director position is a mid-level role supporting the advertising and sales needs of Companion Network. This position is ideal for someone with strong direct brand and performance marketing agency relationships, who is looking to take more ownership and leadership over sales strategy and account management.
In this role, you’ll be the primary account executive overseeing the full sales cycle with performance marketing brands and agency partners. You’ll become a power user of our podcast advertising platform (LiveRead) and play a central role in prioritizing Companion’s inventory as a central hub for advertisers who want to partner with shows for meaningful good.
This is a fully remote, collaborative position with strong opportunities to learn, grow, and take on increased responsibility as the network scales.
About the Role
Primary ResponsibilitieS
Sales & Revenue Growth
Own the full sales cycle with performance marketing brands and agency partners, from prospecting and pitching through campaign execution and renewal.
Meet and exceed quarterly and annual revenue targets across direct, programmatic, and podcast advertising sales.
Build and manage a strong pipeline of new business opportunities while expanding existing client relationships through upsell and cross-sell opportunities.
Develop strategic media plans, proposals, and pitch materials that effectively communicate the value of Companion’s podcast portfolio and advertising solutions.
Maintain accurate sales forecasts, pipeline reporting, and revenue tracking.
Client & Partner Relationships
Build and maintain strong relationships with agencies, brands, and key industry stakeholders.
Deliver consultative, high-touch customer service and develop tailored advertising solutions based on client goals.
Represent Companion at industry events, conferences, client meetings, and networking opportunities.
Lead executive-level conversations and negotiations with top accounts and strategic partners.
Campaign Strategy & Execution
Collaborate cross-functionally with operations and production teams to ensure successful campaign execution and optimization.
Liaise with sales and operations coordinator over campaign deliverables including ad schedules, creative assets, talking points, and reporting requirements.
Monitor campaign performance and provide strategic recommendations to maximize client outcomes and revenue growth.
Ensure campaigns meet brand guidelines, delivery timelines, and quality standards.
Go-to-Market & Strategic Initiatives
Partner with leadership on pricing, packaging, sponsorship opportunities, and go-to-market strategies for podcast advertising offerings.
Identify and develop strategic partnerships that expand audience reach and create incremental revenue opportunities.
Contribute to innovation in podcast advertising products, sales strategy, and audience monetization.
Operations, Reporting & Process Improvement
Maintain strong CRM and sales operations discipline, ensuring accurate pipeline management and reporting.
Analyze sales and campaign performance data to identify trends, improve conversion, and optimize sales processes.
Collaborate with accounting and operations teams on invoicing, revenue tracking, and commercial compliance.
Help improve internal workflows and operational systems as the business scales.
Minimum Entry Requirements
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Media Studies, Business, Marketing, or a related field; or equivalent professional experience.
Experience & Skills
4+ years of experience in podcast, media, or digital advertising sales.
Strong relationships with agencies, brands, and direct advertisers within the audio and digital media space.
Proven ability to build pipelines, close deals, and exceed revenue targets.
Deep understanding of podcast advertising, audio buying, and the digital media landscape.
Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
Strong organizational and project management abilities, with attention to detail.
Comfortable working cross-functionally in a fast-paced, remote environment.
Experience with CRM platforms, sales reporting, and presentation tools such as LiveRead, Podstock, Google Suite, Microsoft Suite, and Canva.
Collaborative, self-motivated, adaptable, and proactive with a strong client-service mindset.
Passion for podcasting, storytelling, and creator-driven media.
